A FRESH TAKE ON AN OLD FAVORITE
I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now. The beloved Bartels Giant Burger has set its foot in our town, bringing many classic menu items that have tempted tastebuds for years. However, this historic burger institution didn’t stop there. Owners Eric Bartels and Victoria Fowler have gone above and beyond to cater to a wider range of palates in the most unique of spaces.
Tucked in the center of town at 723 Walnut Street, Bartels Giant Burger has taken residence in the old Stricker Bakery building. Deeply rooted in Red Bluff's history, we couldn’t think of a better space for this tasty Tehama County institution to call home. You’ll currently catch the Bartels team doing what they do best from 7 am to 3 pm seven days a week.
Take note that this is quite different from Corning’s Bartels Giant Burger. However, fret not, friends. They've toted along their south county scrumptious burger and sandwich menu and injected some exciting new additions. New to the scene is Bartels beyond noteworthy and downright delectable breakfast spread. From fluffy flapjacks and homemade biscuits and gravy to sensational garden-fresh scrambles and handhelds, they didn’t miss a morning beat.
In addition, Bartels opened the door to new dietary preferences and heart-healthy choices. For those who watch their carbs, calories, A1C levels, or cardiovascular health, the fresh Red Bluff menu offers a plethora of healthy options to satisfy your cravings guilt-free. Think hearty grain-based bowls, crisp salads, and wraps. The restaurant also boasts a quick and easy grab-n-go cold box stocked with sensible items such as keto boxes, fruit cups, parfaits, and more. It’s the perfect pit stop before work or on a rushed lunch break.
Before we press on, let’s pause a minute to take a delightful trip down memory lane to learn about the fabulous people behind this culinary adventure. Victoria and Eric have been successfully running the Corning location since 2010. With their passion for good food and excellent service, they later ventured into owning and operating the Chuckwagon at the Rolling Hills Equestrian Center in 2017.
Eric is no stranger to the restaurant industry. He grew up learning, working, and supporting the burger biz. His parents, Carole and Dennis Bartels were the driving force behind the Corning shop and two other locations in Anderson and Redding. Eric, growing up and witnessing the dedication of his parents, knew he would take the reins of the family business one day. After pursuing his interests in Colorado, fate brought him back to California, where he met Victoria, and the couple’s journey with Bartels Giant Burger began.
The birth of the Red Bluff location was fueled by community demand for a Bartels Giant Burger joint. After much exploration, they stumbled upon the charming old bakery building constructed in 1887 by Joseph and Mary Stricker. The couple immediately fell in love with its historical charm. Eric and Victoria saw an opportunity to not only serve delicious food, but also restore and revitalize a piece of Red Bluff's past.
With a passion for restoring old furniture, Victoria took it upon herself to create an eclectic, shabby chic, and western ambiance within the restaurant. The outdoor patio, envisioned as a dynamic space for gathering and dining, boasts a European vibe of old bricks, thanks to the skilled craftsmanship of Juan from Con Amore Concrete. Adding an artistic touch to the interior and exterior is Tommye Carlon, whose mesmerizing murals bring the history of Red Bluff to life.
“The absolute best part of this experience was meeting and talking to people that knew of Joseph and Mary Stricker,” offered Victoria. “Speaking to relatives, collecting pictures, and learning some of the neatest stories made my heart so happy. We are honored that we could show this building so much love and bring it back to what it truly deserves.”
As the new location eases into this fabulous expansion, exciting plans for Bartels Giant Burger in Red Bluff are on the horizon. Come Friday and Saturday nights, and the restaurant will soon transform into a lively dinner spot from 6 to 10 pm. Expect a rotating menu as well as live music ranging from acoustic and jazz to country. Breaking from tradition, and for the first time in family history, Bartels has obtained a beer and wine license. This opens the doors to a thoughtfully curated selection of drinks that will perfectly complement your dining experience. This couple certainly has their sights set on creating an ambiance that will make your evenings unforgettable. Stay tuned for more details to roll out in the near future.
This dynamic duo's ventures don't stop there. Embracing the significance of its unique space, Bartels Giant Burger is dedicated to nurturing community connections. During weeknights, the restaurant will be available for bridal showers, birthdays, anniversary parties, and more. Simply call to chat about rental opportunities. Plus, keep a close watch for exciting evening events to soon dot the local calendar. One standout night already in the planning stages is the anticipated Paint-And-Sip with talented local artist Tommy Carlon.
With that, dear Red Bluff residents and neighboring food enthusiasts, we invite you to pop in and experience a revitalized rendition of a beloved classic - Bartels Giant Burger. This charming space provides the perfect opportunity to gather with friends and family, enjoy delicious food, and revel in the historic charm while capturing some fantastic memories along the way.
